Characters
The characters who populate the world of Pandemonium. We'll be adding these in as we get the artwork for them.
Nils
An ex-banker from Oslo, Nils ventured to the Roussel Zone as part of a rebranding exercise, having grown tired of paperwork, office dividers, and spinny chairs. Having spent years in the Helsinki Sub-City, he has developed a love and admiration for the thaumic environment, and is known as one of the more holistic and knowledgeable guides in the Havana catchment area. Cheerful and friendly, he often doesn’t see danger past the beauty of his new world. Mostly he is rewarded for his good faith. Sometimes he is not.
Kiya
Kiya keeps her past a closely guarded secret, though anyone accusing her of Russian heritage will quickly and firmly find themselves being educated on the history of the Georgian state. She is headstrong and aggressive, and leads from the front. Her and Nils are the veterans of the group, though she ultimately makes the leadership calls, more due to temperament than rank. Her practical solutions are whip-fast and often involve violence. Excellent singing voice which she keeps firmly under wraps.
Emily
Emily’s sister, Isabel, was on holiday in Helsinki when the Breach Crisis occurred. Isabel was declared missing after the first week, and declared legally dead seven years later. Finding herself unemployed after a stretch as a librarian, Emily decided to travel to the Roussel Zone and try to find her sister’s remains. She was originally a client of Paladin, but when her spending money ran out and she refused to give up, she decided to become an employee instead. She is outgoing, friendly, and glues together the contrasting and frictious personalities of the group.
Beth
Beth was drawn to the Helsinki underground from her childhood. She bought pop-science books as a teenager, and through university studied research findings from the Roussel Zone with a great deal more care and attention than she did her English Lit syllabus. After graduation and in the midst of unemployment, she took a Nimbus test to see how suitable she would be for research in the Roussel Zone, and the results came back with a very strong positive. She has joined the Paladin team to gain relevant work experience to potentially become an official U.N. researcher.
Alex
Alex pulled a turn in HM Armed Forces, 4 RIFLES, serving during the Summonings in pursuit of cultist sects around the Mediterranean. Saw no contact with eldritch horrors directly, but encountered extensive cultist resistance, eventually earning him a Kalashnikov round through the calf. After recovery and physio, Alex was pensioned off when the MOD sought to rein in the budget. Considers himself a professional warrior and a patriot, and deeply resents the Army for shunting him back to civilian life. He followed his sister into the Roussel Zone as much to escape Civvie Street as to protect her.
Red
Despite his Texan drawl, Red grew up on America’s east coast under the watchful eye of mixed Chinese-American and European-American parents, watching far too many Westerns. He does at least have a background in agriculture and recreational gunslinging, a keen eye and a fast hand, as well as a slick personality. He came to the R.Z. looking for adventure and seeking to make a difference to the fate of the world in ways more physical than campaigning against carbon emissions in San Francisco. The old west caricature blossomed in the absence of societal pressures.
Socket
Socket was a workaday mechanic in a commercial fleet garage for a living, back in Bristol. After scoring high-positive for Nimbus in a voluntary regional test, he thought he’d make enough cash in the R.Z. to fund his dream of owning a classic Vincent motorcycle. Life changes, priorities change with it, and dreams follow behind. Socket is technically-minded, quick to laugh, quick to curse, often impatient and fiercely loyal to his friends.
